Book origins
Chris was inspired to write A Race Too Far after meeting Sir Robin Knox-Johnston on location for BBC News 24.

Chris was anchoring the channel's coverage of Ellen MacArthur breaking the record for sailing round the world single-handed, in 2005. Sir Robin was in Falmouth to meet Ellen, and Chris interviewed the two sailors. Robin Knox-Johnston and Ellen MacArthurIt prompted him to read the book of Knox-Johnston's historic voyage. He wanted to know more.

So, Chris spent months researching the Golden Globe race. Then he tracked down and interviewed the key people, travelling from the West Country to Galway, from Alderney to Marseilles. The result is A Race Too Far.
