Researching the race
A Race Too Far sheds new light on this 40-year-old adventure. By talking to the key players, Chris Eakin finds new twists and turns.
He has also dug deep into the archives to piece together the full story. The combined result is the most original account ever.

Some of the most important research was carried out in the British Newspaper Library in north London. Here, Chris searched through past editions of leather bound newspapers and rolls of microfiche film to find out just how the race was reported throughout 1968 and 1969.

 The author says:

"It has been like building the mother of all jigsaws. I created spreadsheets indexing the books which six of the competitors wrote at the time, and then did the same with more than a year's worth of newspapers. By cross referencing, I was able to build a full picture.
"I ignored other people's research as I wanted to be original."

By interviewing so many of the people who were around at the time, Chris was in a unique position to add to the archive research and bring the race alive.
A Race Too Far is an unparalleled account of this extraordinary story.
